During my last year in that country, a religious leader wrote an anonymous letter asking numerous governmental authorities to remove my children from me based on the fact that the parents were two men. They also asked the authorities to remove me and my husband from the country and not allow us to return. The police asked us to come in for an investigation. My husband and our two children who were fully adopted had to flee the country within a few hours.

On this Trans Visibility Day 2023, several UN-GLOBE members created pieces that are meaningful to them. We share them, with gratitude, here.

OHCHR is co-organizing with the LGBTI Core Group a high-level event on “Ending Violence and Discrimination against LGBTI Persons” on 20 September, during the opening week of UNGA. The event, which will take place in the Trusteeship Council, 4:30-5:45pm, will feature remarks from, among others, the Prime Minister of Malta, VP of Costa Rica, Deputy PM of Belgium and ministers from Argentina, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, Canada and the UK, as well as the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Additional high level speakers to be announced.

UN-GLOBE has some exciting events coming up in August! First and foremost, UN-GLOBE is marching in Pride again this year in Switzerland! Also Women's night in Geneva and Family Picnic in New York

UN-GLOBE has partnered with the Fordham Law School to examine the realities of UN system employees serving in the field. Many of you have volunteered to share your experiences, and we are in the process of interviewing you. Thank you. If you would like to be interviewed, please contact us. Your experiences will help us formulate a white paper.

One of the five priorities for UN-GLOBE this year is producing policy guidelines for an inclusive workplace for transgender and intersex staff members.
 
We are now calling for volunteers to join a UN-GLOBE Working Group that will help draft these guidelines.

A while back I sent out a call [see below] asking for interviewees who have served in the field, or who are human resources officers to get involved in a UN-GLOBE project in collaboration with Fordham Law School.

UN-GLOBE is partnering with the Leitner Center for International Law at Fordham Law School to study mobility policies across the UN system and to compare them to best practices and emerging norms in the private sector.

UN 4 ALL is a one-day workshop from UN Cares on diversity targeted to staff of the UN system. UN-GLOBE has worked with them to ensure that the LGBTI module of this workshop is inclusive, and that it achieves the aim of having complex issues such as sexual orientation or gender identity understood by staff at large.
